What do you want to know
•Bing Chat got a few new features in preview this week.
•It is now possible to change the tone of the chatbot with a simple toggle.
•Bing Chat now also shows spin counters to track whether you're near your chat limit for a given session.Bing Chat only launched in preview last month and has already received several updates. In addition to major changes like the chatbot heading to mobile devices, Microsoft regularly has smaller updates. A new Bing Blog post summarizes the changes seen last week.We covered the most important update, the ability to change Bing Chat's tone, earlier this week. Users can now choose whether the chatbot should be creative, balanced, or sensitive.
Microsoft also added return counters to Bing Chat; This is important as the tool is currently limited to six rounds per call. Here's everything new for the Bing Chat preview, as listed by Microsoft.
•Chat Tones: We introduced the ability to change the tone of the chat from “Precise,” which focuses on shorter, more search-oriented answers, to “Creative,” which gives longer, more descriptive answers. The middle setting (“Balanced”) is somewhere in between. You will notice a color change in the UX between purple, blue and green depending on which one is selected. Our goal is to let you decide the type of chat behavior that best meets your needs. We will continue to improve this experience based on feedback.
•Return Counters: As we mentioned last week (opens in a new tab), we have set the chat return limit to six in a single conversation. Our intention is to increase these limits, but in the meantime, we recognize that it can be difficult to predict when you will need to move on to a new topic. You'll now see a turn counter and traffic lights will appear below each Bing reply to indicate where you are in the conversation.
Page Context in Edge: If you used the Bing chat experience built into the Edge Dev channel for Windows, Bing sometimes failed to recognize the context of the page you were browsing. We have resolved this issue for most scenarios.
•Chat Behavior: We've improved some chat behaviors that previously unnecessarily restricted replies or made them appear defensive or hostile. Bing responses should be more engaging and provide more detailed observations. If you haven't tried Microsoft's revamped search engine, we've got a guide on how to sign up for the new Bing powered by ChatGPT. Following these steps, you will also get on the waiting list to test the new Bing on mobile devices.
