A Florida woman was arrested for allegedly conspiring to create and distribute sadistic “animal crush” videos, federal prosecutors announced Wednesday.Nicole Devilbiss, 35, faces federal charges for her part in allegedly overseeing and coordinating a series of group chats on a texting app that distributed videos of primates being crushed and collected payments from members to produce new videos.Animal crushing, a perverse fetish some find sexually arousing, is a federal crime defined as “actual conduct in which one or more living non-human mammals, birds, reptiles or amphibians, is purposely crushed, burned, drowned, suffocated, impaled or otherwise subjected to serious bodily injury,” according to the US Attorney for the Middle District of Florida.Devilbiss was arrested after investigators executed a search warrant on her Jacksonville home on Tuesday, and she allegedly admitted to being a part of a group chat titled “Mister Ape,” according to a criminal complaint obtained by First Coast News. After being shown screenshots from the group chat, Devilbiss allegedly admitted to sharing “dozens” of animal crush videos and sending payments to the group ranging between $20 and $40 intending to go toward funding videos. She estimated the videos cost between $100 and $230 to make, the complaint showed.“Devilbiss stated her initial intentions were to help stop the torture of monkeys, but later transitioned to a dark place where she found relief from viewing monkey torture videos,” the complaint alleged. It is unclear when Devilbiss first joined the “Mister Ape” group, but prosecutors said she served as its administrator from June 2022 through at least May 2023.During that time she allegedly collected payment for the creation of new videos, decided when people needed to be kicked out of the group and frequently commented on videos while referring to the primates as “rats.”“If you’re gonna nab an adult rat then get the one with a baby attached. I think most of us like to see the babies. Personally not that into seeing the older rats get messed with,” she allegedly wrote in the group, according to the complaint. She was charged with conspiracy to create and distribute animal crush videos. If convicted, Devilbiss faces up to five years in federal prison.
