Over here we only look at what someone can do.
We do this quite aggressively.
It means both that people don’t get advantages for belonging to a minority group - and also that they do not get disadvantages.
My own team at job (all engineers) are quite multi-culti. Several “born in Germany” people, one German-french (I think), a lady with I think some sort of Arab background (she wears a face scarf), several others with turkish/arab background, some with Chinese background, etc.
Again - German employers only care for what you CAN DO.
